  Summary of article:  Exposure to natural substances (“dirt” for example) is good for your health by building a stronger immune system and helping to prevent the development of allergies, type II diabetes, inflammatory bowel disease as well as other autoimmune disorders. 
     A microbiology and immunology instructor, Dr. Mary Ruebush, is interviewed and her book “Why Dirt Is Good” is cited in the article. Two other leading researchers are also interviewed: Dr. Joel V. Weinstock, the director of gastroenterology and hepatology at Tufts Medical Center in Boston and Dr. David Elliot, a gastroenterologist and immunologist at the University of Iowa.
